Adams – "The best part of this job is never
knowing what you're going out on," said Mary Arigoni,
Adams Ambulance Service Inc.'s basic life support and
intermediate life support coordinator. "There's never a
dull moment."
Dedicated to providing quality service to the towns of
Adams, Cheshire, and Savoy, the ambulance provides a
valuable service to the community, through education and
special training.
Ranging from emergency medical technicians with basic
life support training to paramedics, the Adams station
employs about 30 individuals who respond to
approximately 1,800 emergency calls a year. A non-profit
entity, the organization relies on the support of
townspeople to keep their organization going.

According to Arigoni and Advanced Life Support
Coordinator Patricia Decker, funding for the station
comes from a combination of insurance money, membership
drives, and community donations.
"There's equipment that is desperately needed," said
Arigoni. "But equipment costs are outrageous."
At this time, the station is raising funds to purchase
two new cardiac monitors for their two ambulance trucks,
a cost of $26,000 for each monitor.
"To keep updated with changing protocol, we need to keep
our trucks updated, too," said Decker.
Giving Back
To show their gratitude for all the community support,
Adams Ambulance Service personnel host events for area
children and families.
On Wednesday, May 23, the station will hold an Open
House to provide additional services to the community.
The event will be held at the station, located at 185
Columbia St. in Adams, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
"It's basically for the public, and specifically
children, to see what we do," said Arigoni.

In addition to blood pressure clinics and
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid
awareness activities, the Open House will give children
the chance to have a little fun.
"There'll be giveaways, a bake sale, and a bouncey-bounce,"
said Arigoni. "It also gives the kids a chance to tour
the trucks; it makes them not so scared."
"It's good for them to be familiar with the ambulance
before there's an emergency situation," said Decker.
The town police department, fire department, and
representatives from the town forest warden office will
be on hand at the event, as well as members of a special
police unit in Pittsfield. Other organizations set to
attend are Link to Life representatives who will provide
information about the emergency medical alert system
they offer and members of the Adams, Cheshire, Savoy
Youth Coalition.
Throughout the summer, the ambulance service will also
provide blood pressure clinics every Thursday from 4:30
p.m.-6 p.m. at the Medicine Shoppe in Adams. In July,
they will be a part of the Park Street Fair, and in
August, they will host a concert by the Jimmy Buffett
Tribute Band.
The ambulance company also wants to sponsor a local
youth softball or basketball team.
"We just want to help people," said Arigoni.
